PRO Values & Politics: Networking with Political Youth Wings

Political youth wings are not just clubs for like-minded people — they are true incubators of leadership potential that will later shape the country's future. In most developed democracies, youth organizations within political parties serve as real talent pools where young people learn, debate, generate ideas, and bring them into real politics. Although this process is still developing in Ukraine, the SD Platform is actively working to involve young people in political life. That’s why we organized the youth networking event PRO Values & Politics, which brought together representatives of various youth organizations, political parties, and Danish partners.

Young activists had the opportunity to openly discuss challenges, values, issues, and possible solutions. A special part of the event was a discussion with Danish partners from DUF (the Danish Youth Council — an umbrella organization uniting 79 children’s and youth organizations) and DSU (the Social Democratic Youth of Denmark — the youth wing of the Danish Social Democrats), who shared their own experiences of political youth work in Denmark.
Our international colleagues spoke about training systems, ways to engage young people in politics, and the challenges young politicians in Europe face. Participants could ask questions and get first-hand insights into how youth political engagement works in countries where it’s already become an effective part of the party system.

Another highlight was a panel discussion featuring representatives from Ze!Molodizhka (Zelenskyy! Youth), Batkivshchyna Moloda (Young Motherland), the National Youth Council of Ukraine, the Women’s Lobby, and, of course, the SD Platform. Together they explored pressing issues on the agenda of politically active Ukrainian youth.
Key discussion topics included:
  • willingness of young people to participate in political life;
  • barriers standing in their way;
  • how political culture influences youth participation;
  • factors that discourage young people from engaging in politics;
  • the challenges facing youth leaders today.
Special attention was given to the impact of war on young people.

War directly shapes political views, societal moods, and determines how the younger generation perceives the state, authority, and their own role in its development. Participants discussed political education, youth electoral attitudes, value orientations, and views on elections during wartime.
It doesn’t matter which political ideology each participant represents — what unites us is a shared goal: developing, supporting, and motivating Ukrainian youth to take an active civic stance, building a new political culture, and creating a better future for our country.
We are sincerely grateful to every representative of the youth organizations for your active stance, openness to dialogue, and concern for Ukraine’s future. Your ideas, sharp questions, and readiness to seek common ground once again proved that Ukrainian youth have enormous potential.
